St. Mary’s Health System has launched Canopy Protect, a wearable safety technology that gives employees a fast, discreet way to call for support when they need it.
The system went live August 19 across St. Mary’s locations in Lewiston, Auburn and Poland, equipping all employees with wearable safety technology across all buildings and parking areas.
“Listening to our staff and investing in technology that makes their work safer is part of how we continue to evolve,” said Jill Rollins, CNO/COO of St. Mary’s Health System. “Canopy gives every member of our team a simple, discreet way to call for support and adds another layer of safety across our health system.”
The decision to bring Canopy to St. Mary’s grew out of ongoing conversations about employee safety. Through culture-of-safety surveys, event reviews and the work of St. Mary’s Workplace Violence Prevention Committee, employees identified the need for a way to summon help quickly and discreetly.
The small wearable button allows employees to alert nearby colleagues and security without needing to leave the area or reach for a phone, complementing the training, security resources and response protocols already in place at St. Mary’s.
The St. Mary’s rollout expands Covenant Health’s use of Canopy, which is already in place on specific units at two other hospitals within the health system.
