Adam Alter, MD earned his medical degree magna cum laude from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine, where he also completed dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Chemistry, both summa cum laude. He went on to complete his Internal Medicine residency at Providence Portland Medical Center in Oregon, followed by a Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.

Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine, Dr. Alter has served in both clinical and academic leadership roles. He previously held faculty and directorship positions at Maine Medical Center, where he was Medical Director of Critical Care Ultrasound and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tufts University.

Dr. Alter joined St. Mary’s Health System in 2025, bringing extensive experience in pulmonary and critical care medicine, medical education, and advanced ultrasound diagnostics. He is dedicated to improving patient outcomes through evidence-based care, collaboration, and clinical excellence.
