About Us

Why St. Mary’s Health System

St. Mary’s Health System, a member of Covenant Health, was founded in 1888 by the Sisters of Charity of Saint-Hyacinthe. Today, it is an integrated medical system comprised of a 220-bed acute care community hospital, an employed group of primary care and specialty providers, urgent care and emergency department, an extensive complement of behavioral and mental health services and outpatient specialty practices. Our system also includes d’Youville Pavilion, a senior care community that offers a rehabilitation center, long-term skilled nursing care and memory care. We combine talented and compassionate caregivers with state-of-the-art medical technology to meet Androscoggin County’s health care needs.

We Invest in Our Community

At St. Mary’s Health System, we strive to be good stewards of the health care resources in the Lewiston community. As a not-for-profit health system, we reinvest every dollar we earn back into improving care. We’re proud to call this home and we look forward to serving the local community for generations to come. Here’s how we’ve invested our resources:

  • $1.1 million in programs, services and partnerships to benefit the community
  • $51.1 million in uncompensated care and community benefit
  • $114.2 million in salaries and benefits
  • $1.7 million invested in providing education opportunities to our employees

Senior Leadership Team>

Our experienced and dedicated leadership team is guided by our Mission to provide care for the whole person, in service to all in our communities.

To that end, each year we develop a Foundation Annual Report and Stewardship Report in an effort to be transparent and highlight the good work of our faith-based, community-led, not-for-profit health care team.

Age-Friendly Health Care

St. Mary’s Health System participates in the Age-Friendly Health System initiative. Its goal is for every older person to receive the best care possible, avoid harm and be fully satisfied with their care.

According to the system, by 2030, seven to eight million baby boomers will be 65-plus years old. In addition, 80% of them will have one chronic ailment and 75% will be managing two chronic ailments.
