Brittany Caron, RN, has been with St. Mary’s Health System in Lewiston, Maine in a variety of roles for nearly 15 years. Today, she works in St. Mary’s Day Hospital Program as a registered nurse.
“Nursing is my primary role. I assess each patient every day and help manage any issues they may have,” shares Brittany. “In addition, I’m the first face people see when they arrive, as I manage check-ins at the front desk. I’m also the voice on the phone, helping with inquiries and answering questions.”
St. Mary’s opened the Day Hospital in April 2025. The program is designed for adults 18 and older who need more support than traditional outpatient therapy but do not require inpatient care.
“There’s been a dramatic uptick in the need for behavioral healthcare in our community in recent years,” adds Brittany. “St. Mary’s is honoring its mission to provide healing care for the whole person by ensuring convenient access to this much-needed type of care.”
Brittany’s favorite part of her job is interacting with patients. She offers group education on topics ranging from good nutrition and grocery shopping on a budget to how quality sleep and daily exercise can help improve overall mental health.
“My role allows me to see firsthand how care changes people’s lives. We have patients who leave the program and we never see them again because they’re doing well. We have others who return as needed for support. Either way, I’m happy to be a part of helping patients grow, change and strive to live a healthier, happier life.”
