St. Mary’s Health System has introduced a comprehensive Weight Management and Bariatric Care program designed to help individuals achieve lasting weight loss and improve their overall health through both surgical and non-surgical treatment options.

The program offers physician-guided medical weight management, nutrition counseling, long-term follow-up support, and advanced surgical care when appropriate. Non-surgical treatments include GLP-1 medications, which can help many individuals lose weight safely under medical supervision.

Care is delivered through a multidisciplinary team approach, with personalized plans tailored to each patient’s health needs, goals, and lifestyle. Patients can enter the program at any stage of their journey, whether they are exploring medication-based treatment, considering surgery, or seeking structured support to improve their health.

The program is led by Zara Wahla, MD, and Huy Trieu, MD, general surgeons at St. Mary’s Surgical Associates, working in collaboration with nurses, dietitians, and other specialists to provide coordinated care close to home.

Excess weight is associated with increased risk for conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, sleep apnea, and joint problems. Effective treatment can improve overall health, mobility, energy levels, and quality of life.
