St. Mary's President to Retire

News & Events

Steven Jorgensen, President of St. Mary’s Health System and Senior Vice President for Covenant Health, has announced that he will be retiring on December 31, 2023. He will be supporting St. Mary’s Health System and Covenant Health in his role as Senior Vice President in an advisory and consulting capacity through the end of the year. Jorgensen and wife, Martha, are looking forward to spending more time with family and friends, pursuing their love of travel, and enjoying other activities together.

In making this announcement, Stephen Grubbs, Covenant Health President and CEO, thanked Jorgensen for his service. He noted that Jorgensen joined St. Mary’s in August 2018 and has seen the health system through significant challenges. Milestones include navigating through the conversion to the EPIC electronic medical record, strong system and community leadership throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the formation of a Joint Venture with MaineHealth covering key service needs within the community and working with the St. Mary’s Board and Leadership Team to create a new blueprint that has allowed us to  “reimagine” the future of the St. Mary’s Health System.

Mark Anthoine, chair of the St. Mary’s board,  added, ”I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Steve for the past 5+ years. He’s been an incredible leader for our organization and has always kept St. Mary’s mission front and center. He has always been completely transparent and an open communicator with our board, regardless of the situation at hand. That is something I really have admired about him.”
