St. Mary’s Behavioral Emergency Department is a separate, secure space connected to our main Emergency Department. It is designed specifically to care for individuals of all ages experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis.

Whether you or your loved one needs help with anxiety, depression, addiction or another urgent behavioral health concern, our team is here to help in a safe, calm and respectful environment.


What to Expect When You Arrive

  • You will check in at the Emergency Department and be medically evaluated by a provider.

  • Once cleared, you will move to the Behavioral Emergency Department.

  • A nurse will begin your psychiatric evaluation, followed by a visit with a psychiatric nurse practitioner either in person or through secure video.

  • Our team will work with you to identify the best next step in your care.

  • Treatment begins right away, no need to wait until you’re transferred or discharged.


We Will Provide:

  • A safe, secure and comfortable space

  • Immediate psychiatric evaluation and support

  • Help finding the most appropriate treatment, either at St. Mary’s or another trusted facility

  • Coordination with local crisis teams when needed

  • Security officers
