Who the Program Helps
The Day Hospital Program is designed for adults experiencing significant mental health symptoms that can’t be managed in traditional outpatient settings. It serves people who are stepping down from inpatient care or trying to avoid hospitalization altogether.
What to Expect

Location: C2 Unit at St. Mary’s Health System in Lewiston, Maine

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Daily Structure: Five hours of group-based therapy, skill-building, and support

Staffing: A compassionate care team including a psychiatrist, nurse, and licensed clinical social workers

Capacity: Currently serving up to 10 patients, with plans to grow

One-on-one clinical support and daily check-ins

Discharge planning and connection to long-term mental health care

Help coordinating transportation when needed

Eligibility
This program is appropriate for adults who:

Have a primary mental health diagnosis

Need a structured, five-day-a-week program to help manage symptoms

Are able to participate daily for a minimum of two weeks
If substance use is the primary concern, we will help connect the individual with other treatment options better suited to their needs.
How to Attend
Once a referral is received, our team will contact the patient to schedule an intake assessment. If the individual is a good fit for the program, they will receive a welcome packet with detailed instructions.
On the first Monday of attendance, patients should arrive by 8 a.m. and check in at Patient Registration, located near the Emergency Department at 91 Campus Avenue in Lewiston.
The program takes place on the C2 Unit at St. Mary’s. Directions and parking information are provided in the welcome materials.
