
St. Mary’s Health System in Lewiston has been awarded an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade by The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving healthcare quality and safety. St. Mary’s is one of only six hospitals in Maine to receive the A rating this fall. This recognition highlights the hospital’s strong commitment to protecting patients from preventable harm errors and infections and reflects a continued focus on delivering high-quality care.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only national program that evaluates hospitals solely on their ability to prevent medical errors infections and injuries. Using more than 30 evidence based measures Leapfrog assigns letter grades to nearly 3,000 hospitals twice each year. The review examines infection prevention surgical safety communication practices and the systems hospitals use to reduce risk. The methodology is peer reviewed fully transparent and available to the public to help patients make informed decisions about their care.
The A rating reflects ongoing work across St. Mary’s to support safe and reliable care for every patient. Teams throughout the hospital follow rigorous safety protocols monitor performance and work collaboratively to strengthen patient protections at every step of the care experience.
