St. Mary’s continues to be on track for opening our Day Hospital Program in January 2025. This program is part of a strategic 5-year plan to meet the behavioral health needs of the community and allows us to close serious gaps in the continuum of care for the three counties reliant on Lewiston-centered behavioral health services. Supported in part by a bill sponsored by Senator Peggy Rotundo and passed unanimously by the Health and Human Services Committee, this program will help step patients down from the highest level of care (inpatient treatment) and provide an alternative yet intensive care for those experiencing acute symptoms. Patients will be able to remain engaged with family, friends and community supports during treatment.
In September, we hosted an event to express our gratitude to everyone who has helped advance the St. Mary’s Day Hospital Program. A special thanks to Senator Peggy Rotundo, Representative Margaret Craven and all supporting legislative and community members for their unwavering support. Our team provided an overview of the Day Hospital Program and gave a tour of the space that will soon be renovated to house this critical service. This new program will help us bridge significant gaps in the continuum of care for the three counties relying on Lewiston-centered behavioral health services.
St. Mary’s will be recruiting RNs, LCSWs and BSWs who are passionate about this specialized work. We anticipate beginning the hiring process for this program this fall, with the official launch of the program in January 2025.
